Bradley Lincoln from Multiple Heritage Project, the leader in Mixed Race Identity Training reflects on 50FIFTY...
The Multiple Heritage project fully support the work of the 50FIFTY Clothing. Finally, there is a product on the market which accurately reflects on the outside, how you feel on the inside. The Multiple Heritage project have recently launched their Mix-d concept. Founder of the project Bradley Lincoln describes Mix-d as .'...the space where Kate Moss meets Beenie man" A mixture and blend of British and other roots, reflecting not only a Mix-d culture but also a Mix-d lifestyle.
50FIFTY Clothing is exactly that. This unique work aims to bring together, people, communities and politics by challenging outdated notions of mono heritage identities and expressing the 'lived' experience, of people from Mix-d backgrounds.
Flag mixing is a perfect way to make us stop and think about culture and identity. The flag represents much of what we know about a culture and society. We do not even have to question this, we are programmed to react to an image immediately. Hopefully, 50FIFTY will make us, stop, question and move away from notions of simple 'pureness' and start celebrating our own individual 'mixedness'.
The last Census showed that more than 50% of mixed-race people are under 16 making children of mixed-race the fastest growing ethnic group in Britain. However, they appear to be the elephant in the classroom: obvious to everyone living in a British city yet invisible at government level. Still expected to choose one racial identity at the exclusion of another and often labeled ‘confused’ or mixed up.
The 50FIFTY brand develops products which accurately reflects elements of all parent cultures without being specifically like either.
